I do not know how many of my 103 faithful readers are actually from the state of New York, but those of you who are need to seriously reconsider allowing Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) to continue to breathe represent you.
Rangel is the sleazebag currently under investigation for ethics violations, and is also the moron who keeps reintroducing mandatory draft legislation. Now, I grant you, this source article is definitely written with a slant, but regardless, Rangel’s contempt for his constituency – and anyone who would voluntarily join the military – shines right on through.
A decorated Korean War veteran and a member of the Out of Iraq Caucus, Rangel argues that the burden of fighting wars falls disproportionately on low-income people and that cost should be borne more broadly.
That’s right, only poor people join the military. And only then because they Have No Other Choice. No one actually WANTS to join, to help defend their country, and learn a job they can take to the private sector – at a profit, thankyew – some time down the road.
But Rangel told The Hill that he recently heard talk about rewarding mandatory service with two years of college credit.
“That doesn’t make sense,” he said. “People shouldn’t have to join the military to get an education.”
Ew, of course not. Much better to matriculate in an environment where discipline and honor are concepts worthy of contempt, and where patriotism is debunked for the ignorant-populace controlling tool that it really is. Pride in your country is such a bourgeois concept.
So, let’s institute a draft, because when rich people have to send their kids off to war, there will be no more wars!
If a draft had been in place in 2002 when members were making the decision on whether to support the war in Iraq, Rangel has said, Congress never would have approved the war resolution, because the pressure from constituents would have been too great.
No, CHAS, there will always be patriots, and their blood sacrifice will always be what keeps puling ingrates like yourself free from opression, be it foreign or domestic.
